Veterans
Memorial
The Atascadero City Council approved this project on March 27, and we need to
raise the $200,000 in private funds for its construction.
The Memorial will be located at the corner of Portola Road and Highway 41 on
land provided by the city. It will honor all area residents who have
served the U.S. military and pay tribute to those who have given their lives in
defense of our nation's freedom. A curved granite wall will be engraved with the names of fallen servicemen from World War I to the current War on Terror.
The Atascadero Veterans Memorial will be a spectacular tribute to our Veterans and their service to our country. It will feature
three main components. The first of which is a 9 by 12 foot bronze sculpture called Faces of Freedom, created by local
artist and AUHS graduate Mark Greenaway. The second component is Heroes Wall and The Scroll of Honor, a 45 foot long and a stately 7 foot tall curved wall of granite and concrete upon which will be engraved the names of fallen heroes. The third and final component is The Pathway to Freedom, an inviting walkway to and around the Memorial, built with engraved brick pavers to honor those who may not have died in military service to our country but who have heroically served none the less and have helped to pave "The Pathway to Freedom" for all of us. The engraved pavers may also be purchased and personalized by anyone wishing to pay honor and show support to our Veterans and Military in general.
The walkway has been designated as the "Pathway to Freedom" and will be
constructed of brick pavers. The brick pavers are the source of private
funding, and can be purchased for $100 each. You can support this memorial
by purchasing one or more bricks. The brick pavers that you purchase will
be engraved with the name and copy of your choice. You may wish to honor a
family, an individual or a business.
The Memorial is a community project and does not require that you have any
military affiliation to support it.
Your donation is a charitable donation
under section 501(c)3.
Our committee is comprised solely of volunteers,
and 100 percent of your donation will benefit the Memorial's construction.
